Jennifer Song is the administrator for arts and culture programs at Yesler Terrace, a historical public housing development in Seattle, Washington. Song's aim is to embody the idea of "creative placemaking", which centers the arts in community planning. To do this, Song brings artists-in-residence together with the residents of Yesler in order to engage in community programs. As a result, both the arts and the artists themselves become members of the community, able to respond to the needs of their neighbors. The program has succeeded in its goal of democratizing the arts and amplifying the voices of the marginalized in the community.
